When Dreams Hurt

When dreams hurt and transform into terrors
And cease being the things that we desire
But rather life’s untouchable treasures
Sleep itself becomes like hell’s hottest fire
Sweet and soft though tart and hard to relish
Because when you awake the dream will fade
With the real world feeling cold and hellish
From the lack you’re unable to evade
Dreams hurt when you realize they will stay dreams
Unable to touch and grasp or hold them

Impermissible to connect the seams
Of your life and dreams so sleep you condemn
When the dreams hurt because they are not real
You hate the sleep because of how they feel
